Game Recap: Lada - Dinamo and Saturday's roundup

*Game summary

OCT.19 -- Evgeny Safronov's scored twice for Lada, while veterans Vladimir Vorobiev and Alexander Semak had Dinamo's goals as the teams played a 2-2 tie in Togliatti. Moscovites twice scored go-ahead goals, but couldn't hold to the lead both times.
   Early in the first period Lada's young defender Filipp Metlyuk gave the puck away to experienced Semak in his own zone. Former NHLer wasted no time beating Maxim Mikhailovsky. Just over a minute before that veteran forward Denis Metlyuk took a tricky shot only to be stopped by Alexander Eremenko.
   Aftermath the home side wasted back-to-back power-plays, while the visitors could had extended their lead. Dallas Stars' prospect Alexei Tereschenko skated one-on-one against Mikhailovsky but couldn't solve the netminder.
   Petr Vorobiev side came out strong in the second period. In the opening seven minutes youngsters Alex Semin and Igor Grigorenko wasted several great opportunities. Semin twice found himself  in great position for a shot, but both times hesitated allowing Dinamo defenders neutralize the danger. Grigorenko first missed the net off a great feed from Alex Boikov and than couldn't beat Eremenko from in close.
   Midway through the period the home side tied it at one. Safronov scored on a rebound off Sergei Sevostianov's shot. Right away Dinamo managed a two-on-one rush. Unfortunately youngster Igor Mirnov missed the puck on the play. Seconds before the intermission Lada's Semin and Ilya Gorokhov failed to capitalize on good scoring chances.
   Vorobiev put his side ahead at 5:03 of the third period, cashing on a rebound of Alexander Stepanov's shot. This time it took the home side significantly less time to equalize. At 10:52 Safronov got his second tally of the game.
   In the OT both teams played rather carefully. However with 25 seconds to go Grigorenko once again failed to score on a great opportunity.
   "We knew that Dinamo players had a lot of skill and asked our guys to play it safe in our end. But unfortunately we made several mistakes and that possibly cost us 3 points," - said Peter Vorobiev. Meantime his counterpart Zinetula Belyaletdinov seemed pleased: "I'm content with the result and even more with the way we played. We faced a really good opponent that came out strong and was able to come back at us twice."

Notes: Avs' Yuri Babenko was arguably Dinamo's best forward. He had an assists on Vladimir Vorobiev's goal and played aggressively all night long... Alex Ovechkin was merely visible getting roughing double minor after failing to engage in a fight against Lada's Andrei Frolkin... Lada's Igor Grigorenko had another strong game but displayed unusually poor finishing touch.

In Ufa, Salavat Yulaev trashed Molot-Prikamie 8-0. Igor Volkov had two goals and as many helpers, while Alexei Gorshkov finished the night with a goal and three assists.

In Magnitogorsk, Sens' Alexei Kaigorodov scored twice, including game winner, and set up Alexander Koreshkov's goal as Metallurg defeated Severstal 4-2.

In Chelyabinsk, league low-scoring SKA exploded for six goals to beat Mechel 6-3. Veterans Alexei Koznev and Egor Bashkatov had a goal and an assists each.

In Khabarovsk, Avangard defeated Amur 2-1. Czech Martin Prochazka scored the winning goal in the third period.

In Moscow, at CSKA Ice Palace Spartak beat CSKA 4-2. Islanders' Dmitry Upper and Blues' Dmitry Semin scored for Red and White, while projected top 5 pick at the upcoming NHL Entry Draft Nikolai Zherdev tallied his fifth of the season for Red Army.
   Meantime in Setun the Soviet Wings defeated Sibir in overtime thanks to a goal by Belorussian defender Alexander Makritsky.

Finally in Yaroslavl, Lokomotiv came back from a two-goal deficit to tie Novokuznetsk 2-2. Vyacheslav Butsayev scored the equalizer with just 9 seconds to go in regulation.
